Day 6

Hahaha my news updates are always like 1 day slower, sucky news aint it? But I go for quality! So far so good, its day 7 going on day 8 now and it just snowed!! Well more like snow and rain simultaneously. How cool can that be?!?

Anyway, on day 6, which started with a stayover at seb's place, didn't go very well. This was because seb's bed felt harder than the first time I slept on it, and it was like really cold, so I really felt like I didnt sleep much. Since I couldn't sleep more, got out of bed to surf the net for a while and Seb & Meiyee went running. Seb came back about 1 hour later looking dirty. He told us that he fell and had pictures to show how he fell. But again, like he always does, actually lied to us and said he was walking on a frozen lake. Its really quite cool!

Shortly after breakfast, we went out, and was greeted by sleet, or frozen rain. Which we initially still thought was snow! Hahahah noob. We went to waterlooplein where there was a flea market, which sold some really nice and cheap winter accessories like gloves, caps, second-hand sweaters or trench coats which looked really new! But the cold got really bad that I really felt restless after standing at this shop where we spent quite alot of time. The shop owner was this extremely funny and friendly Nigerian who taught us alot of interesting things, on top of the cheap gloves and scarfs he sold. Since he was so nice, everyone of us bought something from him. Now that's what I call a good businessman, he doesn't sell his things, but rather he sells his time and smile. A good attitude goes a long way!

After the flea market, we headed somewhere near, in search of the Chinatown in Amsterdam. The problem with Amsterdam roads is that they inter-twine too much, to the extent that what was a 5 minute walk from the flea market caused us to walk a big circle that took 30 minutes! Hahah, but okay lah, know new places in areas we are living in don't hurt.

In Chinatown, we came across this shop called Amazing Oriental, which is basically a shop selling all the imported stuff from Asia. However, sad to say, the prices are also amazingly expensive too! To put in perspective...

- Rice is 2 times more expensive than what we have here
- Toufu is 4 times more expensive
- They sell my favourite Schweepes ice-cream soda, but its also twice as ex
- Cai xin is like 10 times more expensive

Well almost nothing there is cheap! Thankfully I just realised that there are other shops nearby which we haven't explored. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the food they sell won't cost us an arm or leg.

There was an orientation meeting for us econs people at 5pm later in that afternoon, for which I was late since my place was further. Luckily, it was nothing much as we got a welcome gift and 2 free items at the cafe in school. Spent a good 2 hours there meeting more people who are taking the same courses, and we finally met the dutch course coordinator who had been liaising with us from all the way back in October, Ms Konningsveld! A really nice lady who has been very helpful along to the way, aiding us in things like our visa application and the like. Too bad we did not manage to pose with her but we will soon!

At the cafe we also met a new friend from HongKong, so we asked her along for dinner at Silver Grill, the eatery I mentioned in an earlier post which sells very nice pasta and pizzas, with special prices on Monday and Wednesday for pastas and pizzas respectively!

Everyone else's food. Each plate goes for 5 Euros, approximately S$10. It may not be cheap compared to Singapore, but it certainly is one of the cheapest eatery in Amsterdam and the food is totally awesome. We'll be eating it again tomorrow! Hurraf!
